New Exhibition of Work by Janet Brady and Peter Davies.
Exhibiting at The Wharf - Tavistock - Monday 4th April - Friday 29th April 2011
India - The Journey.
We stayed at a beautiful retreat high in the Himalayas two hours drive from Darjeeling. Karmi Farm family home of
the Pulger-Frame family. We visited their ancient monastery this sign greets you as you arrive.
These unusual monuments are the tombs of past lamas.
We usually visit India during their festival period. Festivals are called Puja and people paint their houses
bright colours as part of the celebrations. This mountain home was painted to match the brilliant blue sky.
A magical moment at the Taj Mahal, bright saris flying in the wind.
Such power of colour, merging the hive with the sky and mountains.
We trek to the local monastery and on the way we met the local people. "Namaste" captured the moment when the local people
greeted us with such warmth and acceptance.
The children are more questioning, curious and a little shy.
On the Way to Karmi Farm from Darjeeling we drove through dramatic hill sides, full of tea gardens.
The vegetation seems larger than life, bamboo grows 30ft high, banana trees are 20ft.
The view as seen from Karmi Farm clinic, no two days are the same, every day is unique,
this is just one of the beautiful days we spent at Karmi.
The view from Karmi Farm, looking down to the river, 4000ft, this is the border between West Bengal and Sikkim.
You can just see the paddi fields.
Dramatic Poinsettias trees pepper the landscape on the trek to the Monastery. Flashes of red, whole trees of colour.
Six painting - The Plate Dance - Aneeta dancing at Karmi Farm, on the final evening,
a display of traditional dancing by the local children.
