The colours of India.

Bluebells in April.

Inspired by a sunny spring day in April when the bluebells dominated the landscape.
I sat amongst a sea of nodding blubells, dappled by sunlight intoxicated by their heady scent.
Sketching to get a feel for the delicacy, trying to capture the intense colour of greens and purples.
Pockets of light wash out the colour and contrast dramatically with the shade.

The Emerald River and Back Gate.

My personal focus for watercolours in 2007 was "Light". The use of strong contrasts to emphasize the power of light.
Finding the courage to paint so dark was difficult but essential.
