The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

The three watercolour painting below are the latest works of Janet Brady. "Heligan is my favourite place!
My paintings of the “Jungle” and “Lakes” of Heligan are sumptuous slices of the lush vegetation
trees and water, rich combinations of plants and trees from canopy to floor.
Wandering down the boardwalks to the lakes I get a magical sense of what it must have been like in the past.
The height of the trees twisted with age; make me feel small, insignificant and yet privileged to be in their presence.
The tallest trees impose their majesty guiding my eyes to the clear blue skies above.
It’s so transient our passing through. I love to roam about and explore the dense forest.
I love the contrast of different leaf shapes and colours covered with dappled light dancing through the forest,
providing living patterns, the magical light sparkling through the forest at its densest.
It’s inspirational and a joy to paint.

Bluebells in April.

Inspired by a sunny spring day in April when the bluebells dominated the landscape.
I sat amongst a sea of nodding blubells, dappled by sunlight intoxicated by their heady scent.
Sketching to get a feel for the delicacy, trying to capture the intense colour of greens and purples.
Pockets of light wash out the colour and contrast dramatically with tthe shade.

The Emerald River and Back Gate.

My personal focus forwatercolours in 2007 was "Light". The use of strong contrasts to empasise the power of light.
Finding the courage to paint so dark was difficult but essential.
