Brambles Art Retreat – January 2003

I left London in 1999, escaping from the very busy life I had as a Fashion Designer.
We moved to the sleepy hamlet of Sprytown, on the border of Devon and Cornwall
to a beautiful pink house called Brambles.
Settling into the local community and without any firm plans I began to paint in Watercolour.
Initially I only painted flowers, white lilies to be exact, something of a challenge on white paper.
A fantastic discipline, this taught me how to look, the importance of good drawing skills
and how to master the complex medium of Watercolour.
In 2003 we open Brambles Art Retreat, offering residential painting holidays.
This brought with it many challenges as all the guests had different needs and skill levels.
It’s the perfect lifestyle for me at the moment, I love painting, I like people and really enjoy teaching.

Often as part of a course we would come to Heligan, with guests, to paint, it was always a challenge.
I love photography and I have a vast collection of photos from my visits. They became my inspiration for the
three watercolour paintings. They are the tip of the iceberg as Heligan has so much to offer and so do I.
